The Melnick Index

The Melnick Index was developed by Prof. Rafi Melnick President of Reichman University.

The Index is a coincident indicator designed to identify, in real time, the level and the turning points of economic activity in Israel. The index is composed of basic data, published by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

Prof. Rafi Melnick

Ph.D. in Economics, University of California, Berkeley. B.A. in Economics and Statistics and M.A. studies in Economics at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
President of Reichman University. Previously served as Dean of the Lauder School of and founded the School of Economics at IDC.  Expert in the Israeli economy, his research and publications are in the fields of monetary economics, the Israeli economy, and applied econometrics.
Former member of the Monetary Committee of the Bank of Israel. Prior he served as Deputy Director of the Research Department at the Bank of Israel, Lecturer at the Hebrew University, and a visiting Professor at Boston University and at the University of California, Davis.
Served on the Advisory Committee of the Economic Council in the Prime Minister’s Office, member of the Advisory Committee to the Minister of Finance and director of the Macroeconomic team at the Director General of Finance and a member of the Committee for Socio-Economic Change.
Currently member of the investment committee of Clal Insurance Company. Previously chairman of the investment committee of Clal Insurance Company, chairman of the investment committee of Migdal Ltd., chairman of the investment committee of Magen Ltd., economic advisor to Bank Leumi, member of the board of directors of Psagot Ofek Ltd. And research fellow at the Center for Social Policy Research Studies in Israel.
